Forsters Tern

Green Frog

 Green Frog, Rama clamitans melanota

The Green Frog, Rama clamitans melanota, is a common resident of shallow fresh water springs, streams, ponds and lakes with much vegetation. Green Frogs consume anything that can fit in their mouth like crickets, flies, fish, crayfish, shrimp, grasshoppers, smaller frogs, tadpoles, small snakes, birds, mollusks, moths, and their own cast skin. Tadpoles consume algae and water plants. Green Frogs are found throughout the eastern half of the United States except the lower half of Florida. I found this one and photographed him from my kayak on a small pond near the Salem Nuclear Plant in New Jersey.
